Nyagatare: Teachers urged to invest in cooperatives
The customer care officer at UMWALIMU SACCO in Nyagatare District Robert Asimwe has urged teachers to turn their associations into cooperatives and be able to access loans for supporting their business activities.
Asiimwe gave the advise in a recent one day meeting held at PDRCIU hall in Nyagatare sector that gathered representatives of all Teachers Associations in the District.
UMWALIMU Savings and Credit Cooperative referred to as UMWALIMU SACCO is a cooperative for Rwandan teachers mandated to empower members towards uplifting their social-economic welfare and contribute to socio-economic development of the community in which they live.
The establishment of the SACCO was the initiative from President Kagame aiming at helping teachers overcome poverty.

“Building my own house was like a dream to me before “Umwarimu Sacco” made it easier,” He says.
Another teacher, Emmy Mugenzi confesses that the advice to form cooperatives has yielded for many teachers.
Asiimwe, who led the discussion explained the purpose of the meeting and said that they follow teachers up after giving them loans to improve their living standard.
During the meeting, all speakers emphasized on forming cooperatives from associations so that they get loans which would support their small and medium business projects
