Kirehe to launch special savings week
To entrench a savings culture among Rwandans, a special savings week under the theme “Save today and secure your future” is to launched in Kirehe district dedicated towards reminding and educating citizens on the importance of saving.
According to Jean de Dieu Tihabyona, the vice mayor for finance and economic development, the special savings week will involve several initiatives including awareness campaigns talk shows interviews with stakeholders and the public among others.
The campaign is scheduled to take place between on October 25-31.
He added that financial institutions should play an important role by educating target groups about the services and the products they offer.
“You need to prove your competence and lure them to seek your services. Poor services scare clients away and then resort to keep their money at their homes and do not take on savings which is important value,” the mayor explained.
“Saving should be a culture for resident in Kirehe so as to enhance our development, no country can develop without saving and no individual either,” he remarked, adding that every resident today should work with the sole purpose of improving his social welfare and the only way to achieve this is through savings.
Desire Nsabimana, the in- charge of cooperatives in Kirehe district said that savings is still an uncommon culture among residents of Kirehe.
Statistics from Kirehe district indicate that out of 160,000, over 5,300 have never saved a franc and have no idea of the importance of savings.
